Where did Hamari Pahchan NGO conduct the camp?
Team Hamari Pahchan collaborated with Kapish and Jahnavi Ahuja on January 17, 2025, to conduct an eye awareness camp in Coolie Camp. Coolie Camp is an urban slum with a population of 314 families adding up to 1,500 people on average. The camp houses within its small enclosures for the members of the camp, a school, and a variety of other small shops. There is a Tyre shop, a kabaadiwala and several tea shops also in the premises. The camp has grown multi-fold from 2 houses to about 200 living areas. Hamari Pahchan NGO conducted an eye awareness event for the camp’s children. NGO Hamari Pahchan in collaboration with Jahnavi and Kapish Ahuja organized the eye awareness camp in Coolie Camp.
,How was the camp conducted?
It all started with a small promise of kindness. In 2015, Hamari Pahchan began with the aim of giving people food, clothes, shelter and anything and you name it. Today’s event was an example of this and it started out within the slum school where basic education is imparted to school kids. As part of the Hamari Pahchan team, we received at least 50-60 students and so they occupied their classroom. The kids were asked to sit in an orderly way. Within some time, the special guests to the event Kapish and Jahnavi conducted a question-answer session which brought about things like, what is color, light and how the sun provides light. They also provided answers to questions like why we should protect our eyes, when we should do it and how do glasses help the wearer. As a reward to the students with correct answers, they distributed star stickers.
Healthy eyes require regular care and attention. To avoid spoiling eyes, children should limit screen time (TV, mobiles, laptops, pc’s) to 2 hrs and always have to keep a screen 5 feet from the eyes. Reading material and papers should be kept 12 inches away from the eyes.
I addition, medical care routine was organised for the children who stay in the camp.
How did the camp help the children?
The children had a very positive reaction to the event and showed high curiosity and knowledge. The excitement of the children and their zeal to participate in the games we all organised was high and the entire team was supportive to get their eye-checkups done. The children got a good opportunity of interaction with the team and the collaborators and we as the organisers had a great time interacting with the students. The esteemed guests also provided chocolates and refreshments for the children. Team Hamari Pahchan’s efforts and the guest’s event management skills were rewarded with social innovation award and volunteer certificates.
Conclusion
Each one of us, tried to make the excited children settle down with our prodding and cajoling. The children took home some special treats and lunch. In another 2hrs, all of fifty children completed their tests. It took a total of ten from Hamari Pahchan Team to finally get their eye checkups done and all in all it was an eventful day for us. You can also collaborate with us or donate to support our cause for education and awareness.
Team Hamari Pahchan NGO would like to encourage you to make a good contribution for the benefit of the poor and needy in society. Do your bit and see the difference!
